Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease is not a "tooth disease" as the name implies but it is a form of an inherited nerve disorder which occurs when parts of the nervous system outside of the brain and spinal cord are damaged. The disease can be passed down from one generation to another.

CMT is named after three physicians (Jean-Martin Charcot, Pierre Marie, and Howard Tooth) and occurs among all races and ethnic groups.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease is an inherited disease that is non contagious and non-fatal.

CMT usually isn’t life-threatening and almost never affects brain function. It is not contagious, but it is hereditary and can be passed down from one generation to the next.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease is a disorder where the defect is located in the nerves that control the muscles.

Symptoms of Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease
