Atrophy & Hand Problems After Surgery |
The following post from our Atrophy & Hand Problems After Surgery & Ulnar Nerve Damage page is from a man who had surgery and now has muscle wasting and weakness. He is wondering if this is a result of the surgery or the shots that they gave him.

I had shoulder surgery on my right shoulder and had
a shot in the neck to numb the area, or my right
side. Since that time after surgery I have had a
numb left little finger. I also noticed that between
my left thumb and first finger the muscle has
disappeared. I have noticeable weakness in my left
hand mostly the thumb and forefinger. Was any of
this caused by the shot or the surgery? Daryl |

Our stories are very similar. My muscle loss,
weakness and numbness in my hand happened shortly
after my surgery too. I thought that it was related
to my surgery as just like you. According to my
surgeon, it was not. But now that I think about it
what else could I expect him to say. He was not
about to admit to liability for something (if it was
surgery related). I think I even asked my
neurologist, who agreed with my surgeon. I am still
not 100% convinced that it was not somehow related
to the surgery. It just seems too big a coincidence,
but I will never know. If you haven't done so
already you might want to schedule a visit with a
neurologist to see what's going on with your hand.
Muscle atrophy doesn't come back and you might want
to stop any further nerve damage or muscle from
disappearing. Good luck. Tanner
